Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you will undoubtedly have heard of the Apple iPhone. This multimedia smartphone has the ability to seamlessly connect to the internet through a WiFi connection. With a highly intuitive touch screen interface, the Apple iPhone has truly broken new ground in interface design. Unlike many of the current smartphones on the market there is no physical keyboard, instead a virtual keyboard occupies the lower half of the screen when user text input is required.
In terms of features the iPhone has a full set of top-end multimedia functions including a built camera which can be used to produce visual voicemail along with the traditional audio and text messaging. A built in portable media player akin to the Ipod allows the playback of a range of audio and video content.
Apple provides a huge number of applications that can be downloaded via the built in ‘safari’ web browser, or through the itunes client on a PC. New applications specifically for the iPhone and the new Ipod touch come out almost daily, adding a rich and growing functionality to an already high specification smartphone. The most recent model released in July 08 uses the much faster data transfer speeds offered by 3G and the built in assisted GPS, which adds to the useability of this great phone.
